Due to a lack of professional teachers – sometimes there is just one woman to look after 60 children and babies – it can be very chaotic in the crèche. Moreover the rooms in the crèche are very small and as there are no beds for the children to sleep in, they have to sleep close together on the floor.

Every time AWOL Tours brings guests to the crèche, the children are happy to do art and interactive educational games with the visitors. Our guests also enjoyed playing with the children and were glad to experience real township life on our bicycle tour, but they were sad to see the children sleeping on the floor and not having enough toys to play with.

The Swedish guests wanted to make a contribution to improve life for the children in the crèche and so decided to donate money, with which AWOL Tours then bought some puzzles and interlocking toy mats.

On our next bicycle township tour we put the mats and puzzles on our funky Dutch bikes and drove them to the crèche where the children immediately started to play with them.

The Swedish guests had an  eye-opening and authentic experience on an AWOL bicycle township tour visiting the kids in Masivelani crèche and we are thankful for the donation to improve the daily life of the children.
