Wellington Cycling Meander

Discover the beautiful Winelands of Wellington off the beaten track with your personalised guide. You can choose between a leisurely bike ride or a moderate to difficult mountain bike ride, Wellington has something to offer for every fitness level.

We will meet guests at their accommodation in Cape Town and depart to Wellington, a beautiful hidden valley situated halfway between Cape Town and the statuesque mountains of the Western Cape. More French people settled here than anywhere else in the Cape and the valley was initially called Val du Charron – valley of the wagon-makers. Wellington was proclaimed after the Duke who defeated Napoleon at Waterloo – somewhat ironic considering the town’s forebears.

We start the 7km long ride from an old historic wine farm and we will be cycling on a very scenic and quiet farm road, a mix of well-maintained gravel and some paved sections in between. The mighty Hawequas Mountain to the eastern side of the valley is an impressive backdrop to the many vineyards. Mountain bikers can opt to ride the Welvanpas trails.

After your first wine tasting of the day you can take a leisurely stroll along the river walk or cycle the 7km route back to start, enjoying another wine tasting on the way. Wellington is well known for producing some of the best Pinotage of South Africa. After wine tasting, the ultimate Winelands experience is to relax with a glass of award-winning wine and enjoy a picnic lunch with mountain views. In the afternoon we visit the farm cellars to see how the wine is made. On the way back to Cape Town we have the option of doing another wine or Brandy tasting in Paarl.
