Day 1 (Mon 10th Oct): Arrival in Cape Town and Orientation Cape Town walking or cycling tour

You will be met by an AWOL Tours representative at the airport and transferred to your hotel. At 10am daily we meet at the V&A Waterfront Information Centre to participate on a 3 hour walking or cycling tour to learn about the interesting history and origins of Cape Town. Learn about Cape Town’s heritage while you ride from the vibrant Waterfront to the bustling inner city, getting up close and personal with the city and its inhabitants. Our guided tour combines the old and the new of Cape Town’s urban landscape, with visits to The Castle of Good Hope, Adderley Street, The Bo-Kaap, The Company Gardens, St. George’s Mall and Green Point. We visit the Green Point Stadium, the impressive newly built sports venue that co-hosted the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The newly landscaped Green Point Biodiversity Eco-Park is a must see for green enthusiasts and the Green Point Lighthouse happens to be the oldest working lighthouse in South Africa! Lead by experienced guides, our bicycle tours are relaxed and prove that cycling is the only way to truly experience this incredible city. Enjoy the evening at leisure in the V&A Waterfront.

Day 2 (Tue 11th Oct): Cablecar or Hike up Table Mountain

Our hiking guide will meet you early morning at the hotel to transfer you to Table Mountain. You have the option of a variety of different hiking trails up Table Mountain (Guide can advise you on best option on the day). For those not keen or able to hike up, we can do a return trip in the cableway. Once on top we get away from the groups and meander along to Maclears Beacon, the highest point on Table Mountain. This pleasant walk across the flat-topped Table plateau overlooking the city passes through interesting vegetation. En route guests can enjoy a picnic lunch whilst watching the views over the Atlantic Ocean. (Duration of the hike depends on route chosen, between 2 and 5 hours. The hike includes: Transport to and from accommodation, Qualified personalised tour guide, picnic lunch and bottled water, cable way tickets).

Day 3 (Wed 12th): Cape Peninsula Tour including viewing of penguin colony


Guests will be met at the hotel for a personalised tour by a qualified nature and culture guide who will regale facts, stories and legends about the history and culture of the Cape. We travel to the Cape Peninsula National Park viewing the African penguins at Boulders Beach colony en route. Once in the reserve guests have the option of doing a 25km-60km bike ride or more along undulating roads leading down to the Cape of Good Hope, the most South-Westerly corner on the African continent.

Enjoy a leisurely hike from Cape of Good Hope to Cape Point, making the legend of the renowned “Cape of Storms” come alive. Wildlife can be seen amongst the unique vegetation of the Cape Floral Kingdom. Relax and enjoy a picnic lunch at one of the many pristine white beaches or the option to enjoy lunch at a restaurant of your choice. We return via the Atlantic coast and travel via Chapman’s Peak to Hout Bay and Llandudno. Price is including bicycle, helmet, water, lunch and guide and transport. You can choose if you want to cycle or hike or a combination of both or rather just enjoy the tour by bus. (Duration of full day tour: 8 hours)

Day 4 (Thu 13th Oct): Township and Winelands cycling

This morning we visit a township by bicycle, an informal Shanty community. A local qualified guide will escort guests around the township, visiting interesting places and explaining Xhosa customs. Part of the tour proceeds go towards the betterment of the facilities in a crèche. Enjoy tea in an African home and sample authentic African cuisine. After lunch transferred to the Constantia Valley where Dutch governor, Simon van der Stel, started the wine industry of South Africa dating back to the 17th century. We visit the historic Groot Constantia Estate. We will introduce you to full array of the valley’s award winning wines, and you will learn about the regions rich history. Along the route you will pass a kramat (mosque) built for the slaves that the Dutch East India Company imported from South East Asia.

During tour you will indulge with some of the most well-balanced wines that South Africa is proud of. Vineyards like Buitenverwachting, Groot Constantia, Constantia Uitsig, Steenberg will open their doors, and cellars, for us.  Lunch is at guests own expense.  Come and experience the oldest wine region of South Africa – on a bicycle! (Duration of both tours combined: 8 hours)
