Cederberg Hiking Tours
The Cederberg mountain range is nature’s own art gallery of bizarre rock formations and San paintings. Explore this stark landscape where leopards still roam.
Day one: Depart from Cape Town into another world of winding mountain passes. The first hike takes you to the imposing monolithic formation of the Maltese Cross, a sight you will not easily forget. It’s been there for hundreds of millions of years. Over that time the land and rock around it slowly eroded away, leaving this amazing monolith behind. The climb up to the Maltese Cross is not nearly as severe as the one to the Cracks.
Day two: Takes you to the Wolfberg Cracks, which is an incredible experience and one of the Cederberg’s priceless gems. From the top of the cracks it’s just over an hours walk along the level to the Wolfberg Arch. At times you get the feeling you are walking on the moon with all the weird rock formations around you.
Day three: A lazy start to the day with smells of strong coffee and scrumptious breakfast. An easy hike downstream to a huge swimming hole called Maalgat, with high cliffs for those crazy enough to jump! Enjoy a picnic lunch while lazing around the rock pool. In the afternoon we head back over the mountains to Cape Town.
In the evenings, we stay in comfortable chalets where you can kick back and relax round the camp fire and feast of on traditional South African Braai. Alternatively, camping options in tents are available.
Mountain biking options are also available.
