When people think of Cape Town, they often picture mountain hikes, cycling trails and adrenaline-filled adventures. And while all of those experiences are part of what makes our city so special, they’re certainly not the only way to experience it.

The truth is, some of the most memorable moments happen at a slower pace. One of our recent guests summed it up perfectly in the title of their TripAdvisor review:

“You don’t have to be young and fit for AWOL Tours to create a holiday of a lifetime.”

It’s a simple statement, but one that perfectly reflects what we aim to do for every guest who travels with us.

The original review that this blog is based on.

A holiday built around you

Alexis and her partner came to South Africa with one concern: would they be able to experience everything they’d hoped for? As an older couple, with one partner having limited mobility, they were looking for a holiday that worked around their needs, not the other way around.

That’s where our team came in.

Rather than trying to fit them into a standard itinerary, we took the time to understand what they wanted to see, what they were comfortable with, and how they preferred to travel. From there, we created a personalised itinerary designed entirely around them.

After their trip, Alexis wrote:

“Despite our limitations they were able to create a bespoke itinerary for us that met our needs and matched our abilities.”

No two travellers are the same, which is why no two AWOL itineraries are either.

Some guests want to pack as much as possible into each day. Others prefer a slower pace, with plenty of time to soak up the scenery, enjoy a long lunch or linger a little longer at a favourite stop. Our job is to listen first.

That’s exactly how we believe travel should be.

There’s more than one way to experience Cape Town

You don’t have to hike to enjoy the incredible views from Table Mountain. The cableway offers an easy ride to the top, where you can take your time exploring, enjoy a coffee, or simply take in the scenery.

Dreaming of the Winelands? A leisurely day of wine tasting, exceptional food and beautiful vineyard views can be just as memorable as a more active adventure. And for guests who’d still like to explore on two wheels, e-bikes offer a comfortable way to experience the region at your own pace.

The beauty of a private tour is that you’re never trying to keep up with anyone else.If you’d like to spend longer somewhere, we can do that. If you’d rather call it a day after lunch, that’s okay too.

Your holiday should fit you, not the other way around.
