Lion’s Head is one of Cape Town’s most iconic hikes, and for good reason

The views from the top are hard to beat. Table Mountain stands proudly on one side, the Atlantic Ocean stretches out on the other, and on a clear day you can even spot Robben Island in the distance. But if you’ve never hiked Lion’s Head before, it’s also completely normal to feel a little intimidated.

That’s exactly how one of our recent guests, Chelsea, felt.

“I was pretty anxiety-ridden.”

Chelsea arrived at the trailhead convinced she wasn’t going to make it. She’d seen photos of the famous chain section online and had built it up in her mind as something far more daunting than it really is. It wasn’t so much a fear of heights,  it was the fear of not knowing what to expect.

By the time they reached the top, Chelsea wasn’t thinking about the chains anymore. She was taking in one of the best views in Cape Town. She later rated the experience 10 out of 10.
