The AWOL Tours full-day private Cape Point tour has many active options for our adventurous guests. We recommend an early start to enjoy an easy two-hour sea kayaking experience to meet the penguins in this small marine reserve.

AWOL Tours is proud to be working with Shark Warrior Adventures; a responsible tourism company actively involved with the conservation of oceans and the safety of penguins along the Cape Peninsula coastline. Their tours support educational projects including teaching disadvantaged children the basics of swimming and experienced sea kayaking guides provide guests with the opportunity to see penguins, seals, and a diversity of sea birds.

Your AWOL Guide will collect you at your accommodation at 7:00 am to join the 9:00 am Penguin Paddle departure. Rash vests will be provided; all you will need to bring is sunblock, sun hat, swimming costume, water-proof camera, and sunglasses. Observing the endangered African Penguins in their natural environment (away from the crowds) is a really unique and special experience. This tour contributes directly to the conservation efforts of the penguins and with time allowed for a swim in one of the beautiful hidden coves along the marine reserve shoreline, there is no better way to appreciate this coastal region.

After the sea kayaking concludes, we head towards Cape Point Nature Reserve for beautiful scenic coastal cycling and hopefully more gentle wildlife encounters. This reserve is a showcase for the Cape floral kingdom and famous for high cliff paths leading down to pristine beaches and legendary shipwrecks

Once in the reserve, guests have the option of doing a 25km-60km bike ride along undulating roads leading down to the Cape of Good Hope, the most South-Westerly corner on the African continent and a beacon of hope for ships navigating the “Cape Of Storms”.  There is also an easy hiking trail up to the lighthouse before we make our way through the wild Misty Cliffs to the small seaside village of Scarborough for lunch.

Guests are welcome to bring their own picnics and your guide will find a beautiful secluded viewpoint or if you would prefer we can assist with a restaurant lunch booking on your behalf. The AWOL team loves to recommend the Whole Earth Cafe; which is a small charming (vegetarian and vegan friendly) restaurant with a focus on fresh healthy living lifestyle food and another favourite spot overlooking the Atlantic Ocean with a vibrant atmosphere is The Hub Cafe.

After lunch, there are more cycling options as we head homewards via the sweeping mountain coastal road of Chapman’s peak drive, (affectionately known as Chappies to the locals) this 9km stretch of road has 114 curves;     test your cycling endurance on one of the most spectacular marine drives in the world.

Private tours allow AWOL to provide a personalised tailor-made experience to ensure there is flexibility to enjoy the day according to personal interests and to linger longer in the meaningful moments. After a beautiful adventurous day going AWOL, there is always time for a short rest and a refreshing reward.
