The Cape Town Cycle Tour returns on Sunday 14 March 2027, with cyclists taking on either the iconic 109 km route around the Cape Peninsula or the more accessible 42 km event.
If you have your Cycle Tour entry but still need a bicycle, AWOL Tours is offering a limited number of Giant Escape hybrid bikes for the 2027 race weekend.
Cape Town Cycle Tour weekend rental
Our Cycle Tour rental package runs from Friday 12 March to Sunday 14 March 2027.
Rental rate: R4,200 per bicycle for the full weekend
The same weekend rate applies whether you use the bicycle for all three days or only part of the rental period.
Only limited number of bicycles will be made available for the event. Bookings are confirmed on receipt of full payment and are non refundable. Bookings close on 31 January 2027, or earlier if all 10 bicycles have been reserved.
Giant Hybrid Escape
Is the Giant Escape suitable for the Cape Town Cycle Tour?
The Giant Escape is a comfortable flat bar hybrid that bridges the gap between a road bike and a mountain bike.
It offers a more upright and relaxed riding position than a racing bike, while the rigid fork and relatively low profile tyres make it efficient on tar. Our Giant Escapes have lightweight aluminium frames and forks, hydraulic disc brakes, Shimano 2×8 gearing and 700×35c tyres.
These bikes are particularly well suited to cyclists who want to enjoy and complete the Cycle Tour rather than race it for a fast time. They are an excellent option for leisure riders taking on the 42 km event and for recreational cyclists comfortable tackling the full 109 km distance on a hybrid.
If your objective is a very fast 109 km time or a personal best, we recommend hiring a specialist road bike instead.
What is included?
Your AWOL bicycle rental includes:
- Helmet
- Bicycle lock
- Pump
- Spare inner tube
- Puncture repair kit
Bicycles are collected from and returned to the AWOL Tours office at Battery Park in the V&A Waterfront.
Riders who use their own cycling shoes and pedals are welcome to bring compatible pedals for fitting by prior arrangement.

Road bikes and e bikes
AWOL Tours does not offer road bikes or e bikes for the 2027 Cape Town Cycle Tour.
Our focus for the event is a small, carefully prepared fleet of Giant Escape hybrids. Riders looking for a road racing bike or an e bike should book through a specialist Cape Town bicycle rental operator.
Reserve early
With only limited Giant Escape hybrids available, bicycle sizes will be allocated on a first paid, first confirmed basis.
Please provide your height when booking so that we can allocate the most suitable bicycle.
