Hiking the Orangekloof trail, allows you to walk amongst a pristine biodiversity of Cape Floral Kingdom.  An abundance of different species of erica`s, proteas and restio`s are common along this walk. The wagon tree, yellow pincushion and blackbearded sugarbush are the dominant flowers along this walk. Table Mountain National Park is unique in that it is an urban national park and has the highest floral diversity in the World with over 2000 plant species on the Peninsula. Even though you are hiking in a city, the trail allows you to be totally isolated from the rest of the 5 million people in Cape Town.
Walking through the enchanted Orangekloof forest is unlike anything I`ve imagined! Orangekloof forms part of the Afromontane forest (forest associated with the mountains of Africa). With the arrival of the settlers in 1652 and the new colonial society being totally wood-dependant, Orangekloof is now the only substantial patch of indigenous forest.
Hiking on Table Mountain, you are bound to experience the famous “tablecloth”. It is a spectacular sight, appearing when moist air rises over the back of the mountain and condenses in the cool air of the summit. The tablecloth is most common in summer, when the prevailing winds buffets the mountain.
The different gorges, ravines, rock formation and myths and legends, all add up to the mystery surrounding the mountains on the Cape Peninsula.
