Commuting from the city we avoid the traffic by taking a train out to Muizenberg along the False Bay coastline. Swop your bags for bikes at the Edwardian styled historical Muizenberg Train Station. It’s beautiful teak clock tower is reminiscent of the earlier golden era . The bike bags come complete with tools and tubes as well as few tasty treats.
Leisurely cycling covers about 25km to 40km per day at a pace of your choice stopping to drink cappucino’s at Olympic Cafe or swimming with the penguins at Boulders Beach.
Spend the first night at the Cape Point cottages, where my friend Sally, a Karoo farm girl does home cooked meals, hearty breakfast from fresh farm eggs and delicious desserts.
The second night is at a beautiful beach lodge where Henobi does an amazing seafood ‘braai’. Long lazy walks on the beach is only a path away.
On the last day, guests have the option of meeting Zwai in Masiphumelele for a visit around the local township before pedalling over Chapman’s Peak Drive.
For cyclists not keen for the infamous ‘Suikerbossie’ hill, you shuttle vehicle can meet you in Hout Bay. The last 20km of pedalling takes along the dramatic Atlantic coastline all the way back to the AWOL offices at the V&A Waterfront. Let AWOL take the stress out of a great cycling holiday in Cape Town!
